About
Every day, Wiki Trends looks at which English Wikipedia articles were read most the day before, and works out why.
Method
Numbers come from Wikimedia's public pageview statistics. We drop technical pages and traffic that looks automated (an audience almost entirely on desktop or on mobile). For each article an AI (Claude, by Anthropic) reads the Wikipedia summary, recent edits and the news, searches the press for what caused the spike, and writes the explanation with its sources.
Every story carries a confidence label: Confirmed when a source ties the event to the date, Likely when the timing fits without direct proof, Best guess otherwise.
Images
Photos come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences; the author and licence are shown under each image. When there is no free image we show a typographic card.
Corrections
Stories are generated automatically and can contain mistakes. Tell us and we will fix them.
